“Creativity takes courage.”
- Henri Matisse, 1869 – 1954

Henri Matisse is one of the more interesting painters to me as a designer. Having researched about him for school work, I learned how his difference apart from normal people made him a more interesting character, and how he perceived life, colours and his paintings also makes him one of a kind. His style of painting is bold, strongly and oddly coloured to the point of oddity in the view of the normal society. He proudly reflects his quote of creativity taking courage and I look up to him for that. It is quite true, as I find that to be a good and original designer, one needs a lot of courage in order to stand out. Matisse initially got his own style of the infamous Fauvism through learning other painters’ styles, having developed it from Post-Impressionism. I learned from this that as well as being original one needs to be bold, but to develop a new one, a designer also has to be bold and get inspiration from other designers’ works.

“I am unable to make any distinction between the feeling I get from life and the way I translate that feeling into painting.”
- Henri Matisse, 1869 – 1954

Once again, this quote from Matisse makes me feel that as a designer, or an artist, one should mix feelings of one’s perspective towards life and also work together. I think it would bring out the designer’s personality, passion, and true talent in the work. Practicing this would definitely show the designer’s true talent, and I am currently practicing that in order to have my works shine with my passion and effort, and to their true potential.
